I will not apologize!

Published February 6, 2009 by MediaEatOut

I’ll tell you real fast what happened to me  yesterday: I drove to the Food Lion supermarket ,  in order to get a few things for my dinner and food for the week.  When I completed my little shopping I got on the 20 items or less, you know, the express line.  When I  pushed my food cart behind this woman at the end on the line, say turns around to see me now waiting in this line in the rear of her. “Hello”   she says , ”Hi ,how are you?” was my reply. She smiles at me “I know you like Michelle Obama right?” was her question to me. “I love all of my sisters” I reply, “Oh isn’t that incest?”. I could not believe my ears ears. “You sound  stupid!” I say it in a low tone, but hard. She was the lengthen of the shopping cart in front of me, but the older guy in front of her heard me also. “I think you should apologize” , is what he turns to say to me. “It would be very inappropriate for me to apologize because she sounds stupid “, that’s what I said. Now. I’m Black , she happens to be caucasian, the guy with the question was also caucasian, and I live in North Carolina so I thought maybe  a cultural difference in how she viewed me saying “I love my sisters. But anyway, I did not apologize. For dinner, I had  nice homemade tuna fish salad on wheat bread, really (2) two with soy chocolate milk. Was I wrong? Was I right?   Men of color have it rough in the South.
